Position: Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Texas Health Action (THA) is a community-informed non‑profit organization dedicated to providing access to culturally affirming, quality health services in a safe and supportive environment, with expertise in serving LGBTQIA+ people and those impacted by HIV. Kind Clinic proudly serves Texas with four locations: two in Austin, one in San Antonio, and another in Dallas, plus virtual care services available to all residents across Texas.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will support the delivery of patient care during clinic hours of operation with a primary focus on STI treatment services, patient education, and clinical support services. This role works collaboratively with providers, registered nurses, medical assistants, and all patient support staff to ensure timely and affirming service delivery. The position reports to the Clinic Administrator with clinical oversight from the Associate Director of Nursing.

Core

Functions
  • Provide hands‑on patient care within the LVN scope, including focused assessments, medication/vaccine administration, specimen collection (phlebotomy and vital signs).
  • Provide direct nursing care for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, coordinating care and treatment provision.
  • Administer medications and vaccines in accordance with provider orders, standing delegation orders (SDOs), organizational protocols, and accepted standards of nursing care.
  • Conduct patient history and intake, focused assessments, patient/chart preparation for RN/Provider assessment, and care coordination.
  • Document all patient care tasks accurately, timely, and completely within the electronic medical record.
  • Conduct patient education on STI/HIV prevention, treatment, safer sex practices, partner notification, medication adherence, self‑administration of medication, and follow‑up recommendations.
  • Support RN and provider‑led appointments such as HIV prevention/treatment and gender‑affirming care.
  • Assist with laboratory result review and public‑health reporting under supervision of licensed providers in compliance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Assist with maintenance of clinical programs such as Adult Safety Net (ASN) and Class D pharmacy.
  • Promote a safe, affirming, trauma‑informed, and culturally responsive patient experience.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, staff, and community partners.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, quality improvement initiatives, and organizational activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Based on the position’s duties and requirements, this role has a starting hourly rate of $26.75. The initial salary will be determined by the selected candidate’s qualifications and relevant experience.

    Requirements Education and/or Licensure
    • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) program.
    • Current unrestricted LVN license in Texas.
    • Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, current or required to be obtained within two days of hire.
    Experience
    • 1+ years’ experience in patient care in an outpatient setting (preferred).
    • Experience performing phlebotomy and administering intramuscular injections.
    • Experience in STI treatment, sexual health, HIV services, family planning, public health, or community health (strongly preferred).
    • Experience with LGBTQIA+ and/or other marginalized communities (strong plus).
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Basic PC skills, including Windows OS and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Understanding of confidentiality and capable of maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA standards.
    • High degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast‑paced clinical environment.
