Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) works in the Medical Oncology department at South Austin. This full‑time Monday‑Friday 8:30 am‑5:00 pm position supports inpatient and outpatient care at 4101 James Casey St #100 Austin, Texas 78745. The RN will provide professional nursing care under general supervision, recognize physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects of care, and participate in quality initiatives.

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
• • Assess health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
  • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
• Facilitates clinical operations and patient care
  • Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart.
  • Facilitates and schedules consultations, pre‑testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals and future appointments for patients.
  • Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient’s chart.
  • As necessary, facilitates communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinates services related to patient care.
  • Assist patients in locating available community resources.
• Interprofessional collaboration
  • Acts as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.

The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience.

Level 1:

• Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred.
• Registered RN in the state and current registration with the State Board of Nursing.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• 0–3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.

Level 2:

• 3–5 years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology.

Level Sr:

• Five years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology.

The work environment is typical of a medical oncology/hematology clinic and may involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other common conditions. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods, occasional lifting of items up to 40 lbs, and normal vision and hearing, corrected if necessary.
