Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $7,532.75 – $8,886.16 monthly.
Pay Frequency:
Monthly.
Salary Group: TEXAS-B-24.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing leadership under the Chief Nurse Executive/Assistant Chief Nurse Executive, Nurse Administrator, or Nurse Coordinator.
  • Plan, intervene, and evaluate patient outcomes; document all aspects of care.
  • Coordinate staffing and scheduling within assigned areas.
  • Serve as primary manager for the unit during assigned shifts with supportive, yet clear, supervisory style.
  • Supervise, counsel, and evaluate other nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with Nurse Coordinators, charge nurses, and Mental Health Supervisors to ensure 24‑hour continuity of care.
  • Assume duties of Nurse Coordinator or Nurse Manager during absences.
  • Provide direct nursing care to patients as needed.
  • Participate in disaster response/continuity of operations (COOP) activation when required, which may involve alternate shifts or locations.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attend work regularly, comply with shift schedules (including rotating, extended, or overtime) as per agency leave policy.
  • Assess health/mental status upon admission and transfer; document assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in patient records.
  • Perform CPR/Heimlich techniques safely per American Heart Association standards.
  • Coordinate staffing and patient care activities in a consultative manner; address performance problems promptly and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Facilitate smooth admission/transfer processes; communicate with admissions staff.
  • Carry out medical staff practitioner orders and nursing interventions per hospital policies.
  • Assist in client abuse and neglect investigations.
  • Implement restraint and seclusion procedures, enforce patient rights, and protect patient safety.
  • Attend mandatory training and ongoing education to meet patient needs.
  • Monitor the use of treatment, intervention, and protection strategies (TIPS) throughout restraint episodes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of American Nurses Association standards; departmental policies;
    Nurse Practice Act.
  • Skills in supervisory techniques and management.
  • Ability to perform CPR, aggression management, restraint, and emergency care.
  • Skills for positive interactions with patients, staff, families, and the public.
  • Ability to handle crisis situations calmly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking.
Licensure and Certifications

Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Valid Texas driver license required if transporting patients; out‑of‑state license holders must provide an original certified driving record within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of RN experience in a recognized health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility.
  • Preferred:
    Graduation from a nursing program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
Additional Requirements

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks (including CANRS, Nurse Aid, Medication Aide, and LEIE). Males 18‑25 years old must register with Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18;
Waco and Terrell Center for Youth applicants must be 21. Flexibility for overtime and extended hours is required. Compliance with HHSC immunization policy and state hospital immunization procedures is mandatory. Unvaccinated employees may need mask or other protective measures for influenza.
