Provide therapeutic apheresis services to contracted facilities & cellular collections while providing outstanding customer service to patients, their healthcare team, coworkers, and guests, thus ensuring the best possible clinical experience and patient outcome. Provide outstanding customer service to donors, patients, coworkers, guests, contracted partners and ordering physician’s office/facility thus ensuring the best possible donation experience and working environment.

Responsibilities
  • Qualify therapeutic apheresis and cellular therapy patients according to SOP and contracting partner policy, including registration/ Medical History Interview and vitals screening, as applicable; serve as liaison between patients/ ordering physician, Clinical Services management to include WrB Medical Director and contracting agencies as needed.
  • Perform therapeutic apheresis & cellular collection procedures per SOP, including patient monitoring and assessment;
    Access central venous catheters (CVC), perform CVC flush and anticoagulation according to SOP/ hospital policy; administer blood products as ordered and per WrB and contracting hospital policy. Consult with hospital primary nursing staff and ordering physicians, as well as Clinical Services management and/ or Medical Director, as needed for adverse reactions and/or emergency situations; oversee procedure management to prevent and reduce the severity of patient adverse reactions as related to the apheresis procedure.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for all clinical donation/procedure types:
    Maintain complete familiarity with all departmental, organizational, and quality policies and procedures, as well as contracting agency/ vendor operating manuals.
  • Act as back up to Clinical Services Coordinator/Administrative Assistant to schedule/confirm clinical donation appointments within required time frames and maintain all appointment schedules;
    Screen potential therapeutic whole blood and double red cell patients according to SOP including registration/ Medical History Interview and vitals screening.
  • Review all request forms, physician’s orders, patient history, medications and lab work, as applicable;
    Proactively consult with ordering physician, WrB management and Medical Director, as needed, including report of all out-of-range values for timely evaluation to minimize donor/ patient procedure impact.
  • Accurately record all procedure results, patient/donor documentation and WrB Management/ MD/ vendor instructions in electronic database and/or legibly on required forms; review electronic/hard copy documentation, as appropriate, according to SOP;
    Adhere to cGMPs/cGTPs in all aspects of procedures, patient care, equipment maintenance and documentation.
  • Work with Clinical Services and WrB Management to meet institutional and departmental goals and objectives.
  • Execute special projects and other duties as assigned by Clinical Nurse Managers and/or VP of Clinical and Donor Services.

Skills, Education, & Experience
  • RN with activeunencumbered licensure in the State of Texas, CPR certification required.
  • Minimum 1 year nursing experience in a hospital setting, oncology unit or clinic. A minimum of three years donor qualification related functions in a blood center may be substituted for some clinical experience.
  • Intensive care unit, ER, pediatrics, apheresis, dialysis and/or oncology experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy experience required.
