Licensed Vocational Nurse - Wellness Clinic

Travis County is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse who brings strong clinical judgment and a patient-centered approach to support the health and well-being of Travis County employees and their eligible dependents. As part of the Travis County Employee Wellness Clinic, you will provide direct patient care and clinical support while responding to patient medical needs and providing or arranging treatment within the scope of LVN practice.

You will assess patient health needs, respond to certain emergent illnesses and injuries, and provide care including wound care, medication administration, vital sign monitoring, and laboratory procedures. You will also provide patient education, follow-up, and care coordination as directed by the Charge Registered Nurse and within the scope of LVN practice.

As an important clinical resource for the Employee Wellness Clinic, you will provide day-to-day clinical guidance to Medical Assistants, reinforce established clinical workflows, and elevate patient care concerns to the Charge Registered Nurse or physician, as appropriate. Success in this role requires the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple patient care activities while maintaining accuracy and quality of care.

This position is the second classification in a series of five nursing-related classifications within the Medical job family and performs nursing duties of moderate complexity within the scope of Licensed Vocational Nurse licensure.

Successful candidates communicate effectively with patients and members of the healthcare team, respond appropriately to changing patient needs, and understand when concerns should be escalated to the Charge Registered Nurse or physician. They are also comfortable providing clinical guidance to Medical Assistants and reinforcing established clinical workflows while maintaining patient confidentiality, accurate documentation, and applicable safety and infection control practices.

• Responds to patients medical needs. Provides and/or arranges for treatment according to protocol and/or direction from authorized medical staff.
• Consults with clinical and administrative staff about patient health care issues.
• Responds to and assesses certain categories of emergent patient illnesses and injuries.
• Provides direct health care to patients, including wound care, medication administration, monitoring of vital signs, and laboratory procedures.
• Assists other medical staff, as required.
• Practices safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
• Documents patient's condition and maintains patient medical files and records in computer. Performs other administrative duties.
• Inventories medications on a daily basis.
• Assists in dental, STD and other clinic settings.
• May answer medical questions from staff, patient's relatives and others as appropriate.
• May process patients into the facility by screening and evaluating their medical and mental histories.
• May assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing and feeding.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Graduation from an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing program AND one (1) year of Licensed Vocational Nursing experience.

• Current license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas.
• Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.

• Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA and other federal and state laws requiring the confidential handling of certain health information.
