Role
The Quality Technician is responsible for inspecting and verifying the quality of units processed through the Austin facility, including production units, RMA units, and prototypes as workload permits. This role helps ensure that outgoing units are fully functional, visually acceptable, and compliant with internal quality standards, work instructions, checklists, and any customer‑specific requirements.
This position is part of the Quality team and works closely with Operations, Engineering, and the Product Quality team to prevent escapes, improve inspection effectiveness, and support overall product quality.
Key Responsibilities- Perform final quality inspections on production units being shipped from the Austin facility.
- Inspect RMA units after repair, rework, rerating, or refurbishment to ensure they are fully functional and meet release requirements.
- Support inspection of prototype units as bandwidth allows, including verification against special builds, engineering notes, or customer‑specific requirements.
- Use defined checklists, visual standards, and functional verification steps to confirm product readiness prior to shipment.
- Verify that units are free from visual defects such as missing hardware, cosmetic damage, incorrect labels, loose components, poor workmanship, or other nonconformities.
- Confirm that all required components, configurations, and documentation are complete and correct prior to release.
- Identify, document, and communicate quality issues promptly to the Product Quality team and relevant cross‑functional teams.
- Segregate and control nonconforming units to prevent unintended shipment.
- Support containment activities when quality issues are identified.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, checklists, and quality documentation.
- Ensure inspection results are recorded clearly and completely in required systems or logs.
- Assist in the development and continuous improvement of inspection checklists, visual aids, and standard work.
- Support root cause investigations by providing inspection findings, defect trends, and failure observations.
- Help ensure customer‑specific quality requirements are understood and applied before shipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and audit‑ready inspection area.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of experience in quality inspection, manufacturing, electronics, electromechanical assembly, or related field preferred.
- Experience with inspection of assembled products, repaired units, or RMAs is preferred.
- Ability to read and follow checklists, work instructions, drawings, and basic technical documentation.
- Basic understanding of quality principles, defect identification, and nonconforming material control.
- Experience using basic inspection tools and equipment preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify workmanship and visual defects consistently.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technicians, engineers, and quality personnel.
- Basic computer skills for documentation, data entry, and recordkeeping.
- Experience in a manufacturing, repair, or low‑volume/high‑mix environment.
- Experience inspecting electrical, electronic, or electromechanical products.
- Familiarity with customer‑specific inspection requirements and shipment release controls.
- Exposure to quality systems such as ISO 9001, NCRs, CAPA, or MRB processes.
- Prior experience supporting prototypes, pilot builds, or engineering sample inspections.
