Quality Assurance Manager
Team: Operations ·
Location: Onsite - Austin, TX
Own the quality program across every line on the SLI production floor: coating and laminating, flexo and digital printing, converting and finishing. The Process Engineer sets the specs; you make sure every job is inspected against them and every operator on every shift executes to the standard. The goal is industry-leading quality: lowest defect rate, fewest complaints, lowest cost of poor quality in our segment.
We hold a high bar, and we expect you to raise it.
- Inspection program: disciplined, repeatable inspection across all lines: in-process checks, first-article approvals, lot acceptance, final-roll release
- Standards on the floor: daily floor walks, audits of setup sheets and run logs, real-time coaching when you see drift
- Team leadership: build, train, and develop the QA inspection team; hold the bar on calibration consistency
- Defects, complaints & CAPA: own complaint triage, scrap / rework tracking, and root cause; partner with the Process Engineer on permanent fixes
- Cost of quality: track scrap, rework, returns, warranty and drive the trend down quarter over quarter
- Supplier & material quality: incoming-material acceptance criteria, supplier scorecards
- Calibration & audit posture: calibration current, traceable, documented; audit-ready always
- 5+ years managing a disciplined quality inspection program in manufacturing
- A people manager who has hired, trained, and developed inspectors / techs
- Fluent in SPC, root cause (5-Why, fishbone, 8D), CAPA, and audit-ready documentation
- Label / flexible packaging / web-process / printing experience strongly preferred
- Partners cleanly with engineering; operationalizes the Process Engineer's specs on the floor
- ASQ certification (CQM, CQE, CQA) a plus, not required if the operational depth is there
- Chases industry-leading quality; not satisfied with last year's number
Quality isn't a department; it's a discipline. You build the inspection system that catches problems before they reach the customer, mentor the inspectors who carry that discipline through every shift, and drive the cost-of-quality number down quarter over quarter. Leadership measures you on the metric you own, and rewards you for moving it.
