Position Overview

APS is seeking an experienced Controls Quality Inspector to support construction quality activities on large-scale industrial and manufacturing projects. This role is responsible for inspecting Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems throughout the construction phase to verify compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, manufacturer requirements, and industry standards prior to commissioning and project turnover. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in instrumentation systems, working knowledge of electrical installations, and extensive field experience performing quality inspections on industrial construction projects.

This position is primarily field-based, with approximately 75% of time spent conducting inspections throughout active construction areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform quality inspections of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) systems during all phases of construction.
  • Verify installations comply with project drawings, specifications, manufacturer installation requirements, and applicable industry standards.
  • Inspect instrumentation equipment, devices, tubing, conduit, cable installations, junction boxes, panels, and associated systems.
  • Identify installation deficiencies, non-conformances, damages, and quality issues while providing recommendations for corrective action.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports documenting findings, deficiencies, observations, and corrective actions.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, submittals, vendor documentation, and installation procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate with construction management, engineering, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to resolve quality concerns.
  • Track punch list items and verify corrective actions have been completed.
  • Support construction turnover activities by ensuring systems are installation-ready prior to commissioning.
  • Promote compliance with all site safety requirements and company quality standards.
Required Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) construction experience.
  • Experience performing quality inspections on industrial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation installation practices.
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Ability to independently perform inspections and identify installation deficiencies.
  • Experience interpreting:
    • Construction drawings
    • P&IDs
    • One-line diagrams
    • Instrument loop drawings
    • Electrical schematics
    • Project specifications
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Experience preparing detailed inspection and quality documentation.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with contractors, engineers, and project teams.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Proficiency operating aerial lifts and man lifts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience supporting large industrial, manufacturing, automotive, battery, semiconductor, data center, or energy projects.
  • Knowledge of commissioning turnover processes.
  • Experience with construction quality management systems.
  • Any of the following certifications are preferred but not required:
    • ISA
    • NICET
    • ICC
    • IAPMO CPI
    • ASHRAE
    • API 570
    • API 577
    • AWS
    • ASNT
