CMT Technician
Job Description
The Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician I is responsible for performing field and laboratory testing, inspection, and observation of construction materials including soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. This role works closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to support construction quality assurance efforts and ensure compliance with project specifications and safety standards.
Responsibilities
+ Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
+ Conduct site observations and inspections to verify compliance with project requirements.
+ Collect, label, document, and transport material samples for laboratory analysis.
+ Accurately record test results, observations, and field data using written and digital reporting systems.
+ Communicate testing results, site conditions, and project updates to project management and other stakeholders.
+ Assist with the preparation and submission of daily reports and project documentation.
+ Maintain testing equipment, vehicles, tools, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
+ Support scheduling and coordination efforts as directed.
+ Participate in ongoing training programs and progressively assume greater responsibility within the organization.
+ Follow all company safety policies, perform pre-task planning, and report safety concerns as needed.
+ Maintain quality standards and ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
Essential Skills
+ ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I certification
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent
+ Minimum of 6 months of experience in construction, materials testing, engineering, geotechnical, or related fields
+ Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
+ Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites
+ Ability to lift and transport testing equipment and material samples
+ Successful completion of internal safety training and certifications
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Nuclear Density Gauge Safety Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
+ Prior experience in construction materials testing, quality assurance, geotechnical inspection, or related work
+ Additional industry certifications such as ACI, TxDOT, ICC, NICET, or related credentials
Work Environment
The position involves working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites. The role requires lifting and transporting testing equipment and material samples. Employees must maintain testing equipment, vehicles, tools, and work areas in a clean and organized condition while adhering to all company safety policies.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
