Quality Assurance Engineer

The Quality Assurance Engineer is a key member of the Quality team responsible for the design, development, and execution of test processes, test plans, test setups, and test cases for Hart Inter Civic’s suite of election technology products. Products under test include voting devices, desktop/workstation applications, client-server and embedded applications, device firmware, relational databases, software utilities, and customer-specific applications, along with XML data, reports, and user documentation

The QA Engineer will collaborate with other QA engineers, hardware and software engineers, product owners, and leadership to understand product functionality, develop effective testing strategies, identify quality risks, and ensure appropriate test coverage. A key responsibility of this role is the development of high-quality formal test reports and other QA documentation, including external-facing documentation as required. The QA Engineer must be able to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret quantitative and statistical test data and clearly communicate test results, trends, conclusions, and quality risks.

Hart’s election systems and products are required to meet rigorous quality standards and applicable federal and state certification requirements. The QA Engineer is accountable for the quality and completeness of assigned test efforts and for ensuring that testing, traceability, and documented results provide appropriate evidence of product quality and certification compliance.

This role requires strong hands-on experience and proficiency in Quality Assurance processes, system and software testing methodologies, and their application in product development. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to quality and attention to detail and will be a creative problem solver, collaborative team member, and effective communicator with a positive, team-oriented approach.

• Analyzes and interprets business, certification, system, and technical requirements
• Develops test strategies to verify these requirements
• Participates in reviews of requirements, specifications, user manuals, and other technical documentation; identifies gaps, ambiguities, and testability concerns; recommends improvements and verifies documented procedures
• Develops a thorough understanding of assigned products, including election workflows, system architecture, interfaces, databases, associated utilities, and supporting components
• Plans, creates, maintains, and executes detailed test plans and test cases, including end-to-end testing of integrated system workflows; prepares test environments, configurations, and test data.
• Performs functional, integration, regression, security, load, and performance testing across Hart’s product suite
• Performs investigative testing on customer-reported, field-reported, and internally identified issues as required
• Assists with QA project schedules, test estimates, project plans, test readiness activities, and risk-mitigation strategies
• Uses established QA methodologies and Quality Center/ALM, Jira, or equivalent tools for requirements traceability, test planning and execution, and defect management
• Independently prepares formal test reports and other QA documentation for internal and external audiences, including customers and certification authorities, clearly communicating test results, statistical findings, quality risks, and recommendations to support product, certification, and release decisions
