Description

Under the direction of the Archeology Laboratory Manager, this position performs highly complex (senior level) archeological collections management and field work. It involves organizing and maintaining collections and geospatial databases, cataloging artifacts, conducting artifact and data analyses, contributing to the planning and execution of archeological investigations, and preparing technical reports that meet all applicable federal and state regulatory standards. The role collaborates with Interpretive Services staff to develop or expand interpretive programs and exhibits, develops and presents outreach programs, works under limited supervision with latitude for initiative and independent judgment, performs additional duties as assigned, and complies with all agency rules, regulations, and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Perform archaeological collections processing work, analysis, and field investigations.
  • Organize and maintain collections and geospatial databases.
  • Catalog artifacts and conduct artifact and data analyses.
  • Plan and execute archaeological investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports meeting federal and state regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with Interpretive Services staff in developing or expanding interpretive programs and exhibits.
  • Develop and present outreach programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with agency requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archeology, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Five years of increasingly responsible experience in archaeological collections processing work, analysis, and/or field investigations.
  • Valid class “C” Texas driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of archaeological theory and methods.
  • Knowledge of archaeological artifact processing standards.
  • Knowledge of archaeological field methods.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and GIS.
  • Proficient in archaeological laboratory procedures and analyses.
  • Proficient in completing analyses and studies using GIS maps and databases.
  • Proficient in archaeological field techniques.
  • Proficient in recording archaeological field data with GPS technology.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member and maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to organize large amounts of data.
  • Ability to walk long distances and perform physically demanding tasks in varying environments and conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to change and deliver quality results in a timely manner.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work independently, as well as within a team environment.
  • Ability to work in accordance with TPWD safety program.
Working Conditions
  • Required to work from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Required to work overtime as necessary.
  • Required to travel 30 % of the time with overnight stays.
  • Required to operate a State vehicle.
  • Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
