General Notes

The Aphasia Research and Treatment Lab at the University of Texas, Austin (PI: Maya Henry) is seeking an individual to fill a full-time postdoctoral research position. This position will be directly involved with NIH-funded studies investigating the cognitive and neural basis of primary progressive aphasia (PPA) as well as behavioral and neuromodulatory interventions to promote communication and quality of life. This position is based in Austin, Texas, but the role will involve collaborative work with labs at the University of California, San Francisco (PI: Gorno-Tempini) and the University of New Mexico (PI: Richardson).

The position is expected to continue through 12-31-2026 with possibility of renewing, conditional on performance and availability of funding.

Purpose

This position will support NIH-funded studies investigating the cognitive and neural basis of primary progressive aphasia (PPA) as well as behavioral and neuromodulatory interventions to promote communication and quality of life..

Responsibilities

* Data collection (e.g., participant screening, assessment) for studies examining the nature and management of primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and related disorders

* Analysis of behavioral data (e.g., assessment and treatment data; acoustic and linguistic analyses of connected speech), with potential to implement and/or learn brain imaging data analysis

* Organization of data and managing databases shared across labs

* Generation of presentations and manuscripts from research findings

Required Qualifications

* A doctoral degree (earned within the last 3 years) in speech-language pathology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, cognitive science, linguistics, or a related field

* A publication record that reflects experience with cognitive neuroscience, neurorehabilitation, neurogenic communication disorders, or related areas

* Experience with collecting and analyzing behavioral and/or brain imaging data

* Experience using R (or comparable software); experience specifically with linear-mixed effects regression models

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior experience interacting with individuals with aphasia, dementia, or related conditions in a research context

* Experience managing multi-site data collection workflows

* Experience conducting neuroimaging analyses

* Experience working with linguistic corpora

* Experience with clinical trials

* Experience applying for external funding

Salary Range

$65,000+ depending on experience and qualifications

Working Conditions

* Standard office conditions.

Work Shift

* Please note availability will be needed on a variable basis from 8am-6pm depending on needs.
