PurposeThe Translational Cardiovascular Imaging Group at the University of Texas at Austin, led by Dr. Adam Bush, PhD is seeking to fill a post-baccalaureate research specialist position. The research specialist will contribute to translational medical imaging research focused on renal and cardiovascular physiology and disease. This role involves conducting research, supporting laboratory operations, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities- Analyze physiological, imaging, blood, and urine data in both computational and wet lab settings
- Conduct research involving MRI, ultrasound, and physiological data acquisition in human subjects including participant recruitment, screening, and informed consent processes
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of imaging study protocols
- Collect, process, and manage imaging and clinical data, including maintaining anonymized databases
- Perform imaging studies, including evening, night, and/or weekend MRI sessions
- Develop and implement data analysis tools using MATLAB and/or Python
- Prepare manuscripts and present research findings at scientific conferences
- Perform imaging and mechanical testing on biological tissues (animal and human)
- Participate in weekly research meetings and contribute to project discussions
- Provide guidance and support to other laboratory members on related projects
- Coordinate research activities in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations
- Maintain and prepare IRB protocols and regulatory documentation
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Biology, Neuroscience or other related field.
- Demonstrated interest in physiology and translational medical imaging in humans
- Experience with MATLAB and/or Python
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Professionalism and maturity when working with vulnerable patient populations
- Excellent team player that can work in teams and independently.
- Ability to pass a mandatory background check and drug screening
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications- Prior research experience in medical imaging or human subjects research
- Experience with MRI and/or ultrasound data acquisition
- Wet lab experience (e.g., handling biological samples)
- Interest in pursuing medical school or graduate education (post-baccalaureate candidates encouraged)
$45,000 + depending on qualifications
Working ConditionsWork is performed in a combination of laboratory, clinical, and office environments, including the UT Austin Main Campus, Dell Seton Medical Center, and Dell Children's Medical Center. Responsibilities may involve interaction with human subjects, handling biological samples, and operating imaging equipment.
Work ShiftPrimarily Monday-Friday; additional evening, night, and/or weekend hours required for MRI study sessions.
