Research Scientist

Purpose

The Research Scientist will support the research projects within the department led by faculty, fellows, and residents. This position provides study design and development, database development and support, data collection and management, data analysis, and publication and presentation development to ensure projects run smoothly, meet study objectives, and stay on schedule.

• Develop methodologies and databases for collecting data using REDCap, Qualtrics, and other data collection platforms.
• Manage data for clinical/non-clinical trials across all study stages: collection, extraction, quality control, cleaning, manipulation, and preparation.
• Provide insight into current health data architecture and potential solutions to barriers.
• Monitor compliance with federal and state regulations and internal and partner requirements (e.g., IRB approval, Dell Medical School policies) for accessing or sharing health data.
• Serve as an internal resource for faculty, fellows, and residents to answer questions about data access, aggregation, and management.
• Collaborate with analysts, informatics staff, and external data teams in Dell Medical School partner institutions.
• Receive, manage, and deliver requested data tasks; work with data requestors to translate requests into logical queries using standard language and tools.

• Collaborate with investigators to develop statistical analysis plans.
• Carry out statistical analyses independently or complete complex projects under supervision.
• Perform power and sample size calculations.
• Help define research questions and translate them into appropriate methodologies and statistical analyses.
• Provide feedback on study design, protocols, and feasibility relative to timelines and settings when applicable.
• Assist with interpretation of data and preparation of data for presentations and publications when applicable.
• Regularly attend division research meetings, lab meetings, and one‑on‑one meetings with collaborators inside and outside the institution.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

• Master’s degree in a related field, or a PhD with five years of professional experience in a data‑related field such as data analysis and data management.
• Ten years of professional experience with complementary experience in data analysis and data management, or five years with a PhD if pursuing that data‑related experience.
• Two years of experience with biostatistical and epidemiological knowledge for descriptive statistics, data cleaning/validation, clinical data quality assurance, outcomes, or research design.
• Proficiency in a range of statistical techniques and procedures.
• Ability to use R and SAS.
• Experience performing power and sample size calculations.
• Experience developing REDCap databases.
• Ability to work in high‑performing multidisciplinary teams.

• PhD or DrPH from an accredited university.
• Management and analysis of large, complex clinical research trials.

$80,000 + depending on qualifications.

• Work around standard office conditions.
• Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
• Occasional weekend, overtime, and evening work to meet deadlines.
