Position: Biostatistician I

Overview

Biostatistician I – The Department of Medicine’s Division of Oncology at Dell Medical School seeks a grant‑funded, exempt biostatistician to support translational cancer research. The position is funded through August 31, 2029.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement statistical studies: develop analysis plans, support sample size estimates, choose methodology, and design workflows for molecular and clinical datasets.
  • Apply standard statistical techniques to multi‑omics, genomic, and clinical outcome data; validate data integrity; reproduce results using documented analytic workflows.
  • Interpret analytic outputs and prepare statistical summaries, tables, and figures for manuscripts, grant applications, and reports.
  • Collaborate with faculty, clinicians, and computational researchers; participate in study meetings and contribute to data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Support protocol development, data requests, and integration of molecular and clinical datasets.
  • Maintain, clean, and curate research databases; create reproducible workflows and basic visualizations; integrate datasets from public domain sources, institutional repositories, and internal pipelines; document all preparation steps.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, IRB protocols, and institutional guidelines for human subjects and genomic data handling; support audits and compliance reviews.
  • Develop tables, figures, and code‑generated outputs for manuscripts, conference presentations, progress reports, and grant submissions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong analytical skills to analyze large, complex genomic, molecular, and clinical datasets.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, SAS, SQL, or comparable tools; familiarity with data visualization, reproducible research practices, and version control (e.g., Git).
  • Experience collaborating effectively with interdisciplinary scientific and clinical teams.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility in data processing and statistical modeling.
  • Problem‑solving ability: identify statistical challenges, recommend solutions, and refine analytic workflows.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum:
    Master’s Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience with major coursework in statistics.
  • Proficiency in at least two statistical software packages such as SAS, R, Stata, or SPSS.
  • Preferred:
    Experience with clinical, molecular, or genomic data analysis in a biomedical research environment; familiarity with cancer research, translational pipelines, or multi‑omics analysis.
  • Experience developing analytic workflows, supporting manuscripts, or contributing to grant submissions.
Salary

$66,229+ depending on qualifications.
