Job Details:

Purpose

The facilities manager supervises undergraduate laboratory staff, manages supplies, oversees the cleaning and sterilization of glassware, organizes the physical facilities, maintains equipment, serves as the UTEX safety officer, assists the curator in supervision of undergraduate research projects, maintains the cryogenic storage facilities, and oversees cryopreservation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of undergraduate students, including training on cryopreservation and DNA projects.
  • Oversee the CCA cryopreservation program.
  • Perform cryogenic inventory and database backups.
  • Perform and assist with research projects. Oversees the CCA DNA barcoding project.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Oversee culture media production.
  • Maintain the cryogenic storage facilities.
Required Qualifications

B.S. degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with macro and microalgae;
Experience with algal DNA extraction, PCR, and bioinformatics;
Experience with cryopreservation of microalgae.

Salary Range

$50,000+

Employment Eligibility

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Retirement Plan Eligibility

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
