Job Details Purpose

The Savinov lab at UT Austin () is pursuing multiple projects centered around discovering and designing protein fragments as universal regulators of protein interactions in health and disease - including in the contexts of antibiotic resistance, cell migration, neurodegeneration, and cancer. The lab seeks a highly motivated, curious, and organized individual to join the team and contribute to multiple research projects, working both individually and as part of a group.

The candidate will set up and perform human tissue culture and molecular biology experiments, and also be involved in training new lab members in these techniques. The candidate will additionally contribute to laboratory management and organization including in the regular ordering of lab supplies and setup of lab equipment. The candidate will have a working knowledge of mammalian tissue culture and molecular biology.

The ideal candidate will additionally have previous experience with protein purification and biochemistry, but this is not required. We encourage you to share this opportunity with qualified and talented candidates in your professional network.

Responsibilities
  • Research support and human cell culture. Support and perform human cell culture and molecular biology experiments to discover and design protein fragments as regulators of cellular protein interactions, both individually under the guidance of the PI and as part of a group. Perform routine mammalian cell culture, including thawing, feeding, splitting/passaging, cryopreservation, and maintenance of cell lines. Maintain careful records and follow rigorous aseptic technique and contamination-prevention procedures.
  • Laboratory operations, ordering, inventory, and organization. Maintain laboratory supplies and inventory; place and track orders; receive and organize supplies; maintain shared spaces, freezers, refrigerators, and common reagents; track equipment service and maintenance; help establish and maintain efficient laboratory workflows and recordkeeping systems.
  • SOPs, training, documentation, and general laboratory support.
