Job Description:

Join our incredible culinary operation and team as a Pastry Cook | Full Time at Omni Austin Hotel Downtown. This position ensures all prep items are prepared and stored to specifications, production of quality pastry items for pastry functions, and adherence to high standards and procedures in preparing/serving all pastry items.

Responsibilities
  • Control quality and consistency of all food served.
  • Pastry Preparation:
    Assist in the preparation of daily breakfast pastries, desserts, and pastries for the hotel's multiple outlets, ensuring each item meets Omni’s high standards of quality and presentation.
  • Banquet and Catering Support:
    Prepare desserts and pastries for all banquet and catering events, working closely with the pastry chef to execute menu items flawlessly.
  • Quality Control:
    Monitor the freshness and quality of ingredients and finished products, adhering to food safety standards and hotel policies.
  • Creative Contributions:
    Collaborate with the pastry team to develop innovative pastry items and seasonal menus aligned with the hotel's culinary direction.
  • Kitchen Operations:
    Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, ensuring all equipment is handled safely and efficiently.
  • Inventory Management:
    Assist in managing inventory levels, including ordering supplies and minimizing waste.
  • Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications.
  • Responsible attendance and ability to work scheduled shifts and on time.
  • Assist in restocking all items as needed throughout the shift.
  • Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen, walk-in coolers, reach-in coolers and storage areas.
  • Maintain kitchen sanitation in accordance with health department guidelines.
  • Ensure functions are completed 30 minutes prior to service.
  • Understand and maintain all standard recipes.
  • Ensure all food supplies necessary for service are in appropriate supply on a timely basis and inform the supervisor if action is needed.
  • Work well under pressure of meeting production schedules and timelines for pastry needs.
  • Produce creative and artistic food work.
  • Perform job functions with minimal supervision.
  • Work cohesively with the entire culinary staff as part of a team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
Qualifications
  • Hotel/restaurant experience strongly preferred.
  • Flexible Availability Required
  • 1-2 years pastry cook work history with a Food & Beverage operation preferred
  • Culinary training/education preferred
  • Must have current valid Food Handler Certification
  • Must have flexible schedule, available to work overnight, holidays, or weekends when scheduled
  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull 50 lbs
  • Must be able to stand, bend, twist for 8–10 hours per day
