This position is based in Austin, TX at one of ZaZa's dynamic properties.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Austin, TX. The Banquet Chef will oversee food preparation and presentation for banquet events, ensuring high-quality standards are met. Responsibilities include supervising kitchen staff, coordinating with the culinary team to create exceptional menu offerings, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations. The Banquet Chef will also assist in managing kitchen operations, monitor inventory levels, and contribute to a seamless dining experience for guests.

Strong leadership and organizational skills are essential for this role.

Essential Functions Operations & Culinary Execution
  • Oversee all banquet stations to ensure consistent, high-quality food preparation.
  • Ensure timely and accurate execution of all Banquet Event Orders.
  • Maintain proper portion control, presentation standards, and recipe adherence.
  • Monitor line efficiency and adjust workflows to meet service demands.
Leadership & Staff Management
  • Supervise, train, coach, cooks, prep cooks, and stewards.
  • Lead by example by maintaining professionalism, teamwork, and a positive kitchen culture.
  • Assist with scheduling, performance reviews, and corrective action when necessary.
  • Support onboarding of new culinary team members and enforce kitchen standards.
  • Assist in monitoring food costs, labor costs, and waste control.
  • Ensure proper receiving, storage, rotation (FIFO), and labeling of all food items.
  • Maintain compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards (local, state, and company).
  • Participate in weekly inventory and ordering as directed by the Executive Chef.
Menu & Culinary Development
  • Contribute ideas for menu innovation, seasonal dishes, and specials.
  • Assist with recipe testing and standardization.
  • Ensure team members are trained on new items or changes.
Equipment & Safety
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is clean, functional, and properly maintained.
  • Address or report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Promote a safe working environment and adherence to all safety protocols.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of progressive culinary experience, including leadership roles.
  • Banquet Chef experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, culinary techniques, and food safety.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills.
