The Opportunity:

A Barista will exceed the expectations of all guests in a multitude of tasks that include, but are not limited to, taking orders and serving food and beverages to patrons at the coffee shop. A Barista’s duties include but are not limited to preparing food and drink items to specific Jo’s standards, performing daily duties assigned by management and help to maintain Jo’s high level of cleanliness.

Furthermore, Baristas are expected to provide customers with a singular experience, a consistent product, high quality food and drinks, and must be committed to superior customer service. Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed.

Jo’s Coffee is an iconic Austin spot known for its coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and breakfast tacos. Founded in 1999, Jo’s proudly brews its own La Colombe blend and is home to the Iced Turbo, a mix of coffee, espresso, hazelnut, chocolate, and cream that has developed a cult-like following. Our first location, still on South Congress, was created as a gathering place in a changing neighborhood.

Jo’s has always been about bringing people together over great coffee, and we’ve been Keeping Austin Running ever since — always with a treat waiting for your pup, too.

Hotel San José is a 40-room urban bungalow-style hotel tucked behind stucco walls and set amidst lush garden courtyards on South Congress. Now a gathering place and hub of community activity for locals and visitors alike, our legacy began long before now, in the 1930s, when the San José was a vibrant motor court on South Congress Avenue. But as Austin changed, the motel fell into disrepair.

Thankfully, in 1994, the keen eye of Liz Lambert saw something more than low‑rent lodging while spending time across the street at the Continental Club. After a long road, the way was found to our modern iteration of a hidden oasis right in the heart of South Congress.

• Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction
• Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and adhere to dress code policies, wearing the Jo’s uniform and closed toe shoes
• Play music for the whole community, including being aware of inappropriate music choices (i.e. offensive lyrics, volume, etc.)
• Respect fellow employees, customers and the work environment
• Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
• Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients
• Take orders from patrons for food or beverage, and prepare the item to specification
• Gain knowledge of the Point of Sale (POS) system so that each transaction performed is accurate
• Restock items using the system First-in, First-out (FIFO)
• Check invoices for accuracy as deliveries arrive at Jo’s
• Clean during and at the end of each shift, according to the side-work assigned
