Museum Visitor Services and Store Associate

Position Type:
Part-Time hourly position at the Mexic-Arte Museum in downtown Austin. We are looking for someone with availability primarily on weekends.

We are looking to hire someone who can start immediately, ideally before June 27.

Hiring Rate: $18.00 per hour

• Welcome and greet visitors to the museum and store.
• Respond to questions in person or over the phone regarding current exhibits, events, educational programs, memberships, and local attractions.
• Promote and sell museum memberships, admission tickets, and gift shop merchandise.
• Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system, process cash and credit card transactions, and manage the cash drawer.
• Participate in store opening and closing procedures, including preparing daily sales reports.
• Maintain a visually appealing sales floor by organizing product shelves, arranging displays, and ensuring all areas meet the store's merchandising standards.
• Keep the store and storage areas clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
• Restock the sales floor as needed and report low-stock items.
• Assist in museum events when necessary.

• Must have at least an associate degree or be currently enrolled in college.
• Retail experience required (front desk experience may be considered in place of retail experience).
• Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
• Experience using Excel or Google Sheets is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of Latinx art is preferred but not required.
• Must have a flexible schedule.
• Must be available on weekends. Additional weekday and special event shifts may be available throughout the month.
