Pay & Benefits
Starting hourly pay: $22.50 – $24.50. Full hourly range: $22.50 – $38.25. Pay is based on labor markets, education, experience, and certifications. General Merchandise OverviewGeneral Merchandise teams prioritize guest experience while ensuring product availability. Key tasks include replenishment, pricing, signage, setting and maintaining the sales floor and backroom, as well as inbound, outbound, and fulfillment responsibilities.

- Retail business fundamentals: sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotion strategies.
- Planning department workload, driving process improvements, and enhancing workload efficiency.
- Hiring, developing, coaching, evaluating and retaining hourly team members.
- Coaching and training team members to build a high‑performance team.
- Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an easy, inspiring and friendly guest experience.
- Ensure every team member is trained to consistently deliver on Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
- Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
- Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, and align the team on the right behaviors and execution.
- With direct‑leader guidance, lead the execution of daily/weekly workload to support department and store sales goals and guest engagement, including receiving products, merchandising, signing, setting, and updating displays, restocking shelves, organizing backrooms, and price changes for GM areas.
- Educate the team on how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
- Help assess reporting to identify gaps in GM processes and assist in developing a plan to resolve them for review by the direct leader.
- Be an expert of operations, accuracy, process, and efficiency.
- Assign daily tasks to TMs based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns, ensuring alignment with weekly and monthly business priorities set by the direct leader.
- Help establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable.
- Help with efficient delivery to guests by leading pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work accurately (if applicable) and assess reporting in fulfillment.
- Ensure product is in stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor while prioritizing the guest experience.
- Collaborate with all teams and leaders to identify key priorities and keep the store guest‑ready.
- Stay informed about relevant trends and products to educate team members through Target communications.
- Evaluate candidates for open positions and develop a guest‑centric team, as directed by the direct leader.
- Identify team members for future leader positions and utilize growth development to build a talent pool within the department.
- Support guest services such as back‑up cashier, digital fulfillment processes while maintaining a compliance culture.
- Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches and creating equitable experiences.
- Follow all Target policies and safety procedures, including food safety, pricing, and reporting hazards.
- Lead and demonstrate a safety culture through modeling and recognizing safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards, and assisting with incident response.
- Model the execution of physical security processes to enhance the in‑store security culture.
- Support merchandise protection strategies across the total store, including ordering, storage, and application as directed by best practices.
