Responsibilities
- Collect project-related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, land use, etc.
- Assimilate and manage data
- Prepare constraints mapping
- Lead field investigations for natural resources, such as wetlands, protected species habitat, trees, etc.
- Define the level of environmental analysis required
- Conduct environmental impact assessments
- Perform complex assignments, making independent decisions on problems and methods
- Assist in preparation for and participation in public information meetings and hearings
- Assist public and private clients with permit coordination, acquisition and compliance
- Work independently on medium-size projects, or assist more‑senior scientists on larger projects
- Perform other related duties as needed
- Ability to interact with various design teams, have excellent organizational, research, project management and communication (both written and verbal) skills
- USFWS Permit for various species
- Experience leading field teams and conducting natural resource surveys
- Experience preparing proposals, schedules, and cost estimates, as well managing execution of environmental tasks in support of public and private projects.
- Experience in regulatory permit coordination and agency consultation (ex. USACE, USFWS)
- Experience with City of Austin environmental permitting
- Experience in erosion and sedimentation control plans and inspections
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or closely related field
- 5 years technical and/or field experience preparing environmental documents
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel)
- Strong environmental writing and communication skills
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem‑solving and research abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture is a must
