The starting pay range for this position per hour is $22.50 - $24.50. The full pay range for this position per hour is $22.50 - $38.25.

About Assets Protection

Assets Protection (AP) teams keep guests, team members and the brand secure. They protect sales by reducing shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud and ensuring product availability while building relationships with store leaders and public safety officials.

Key Skills and Experience
  • Using surveillance and intelligence‑led tactics to keep team members and guests safe while reducing shortage.
  • Operating Target’s video surveillance system to monitor guests and identify theft risks.
  • Implementing AP practices and routines to reduce and prevent shortage.
  • Documenting cases properly and effectively.
  • Identifying strategic resolutions for external theft and fraud and conducting apprehensions.
Typical Responsibilities
  • Create an easy, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by delivering on the following commitments:
  • Greet guests warmly, smile, make eye contact or wave at 10 ft, greet & smile within 4 ft.
  • Help guests find what they need or resolve issues to ensure a smooth shopping experience.
  • End every transaction with a sincere thank you.
  • Assist teammates in other areas while maintaining a positive and respectful attitude.
  • Adjust to business and guest needs to deliver an effortless experience.
  • Support total store sales, guest service, and profitability by ensuring product is in stock and preventing theft.
  • Resolve theft using good judgment and conduct apprehensions in shortage focus areas while strictly adhering to AP policies and procedures.
  • Identify theft trends by leveraging technology, reporting, and surveillance tactics.
  • Prevent theft by gathering intelligence and communicating important issues.
  • Use video systems to monitor theft activity appropriately.
  • Respond to security incidents and submit appropriate documentation following AP policy and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of physical security and safety for team members and guests through awareness and training.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic, respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
  • Work safely at all times, comply with all safety policies, best practices, and training, and report hazards.
  • Maintain positive relationships with public safety officials and law enforcement.
  • Participate in legal proceedings as necessary to represent Target’s interests.
  • Perform all other duties based on business needs.

Required Experience and Skills
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet all state or local licensure and/or legal requirements related to the position.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and teammates.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology equipment as directed.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Self‑management of workload and prioritization of tasks.
  • Ability to remain focused and composed in a fast‑paced environment while completing multiple tasks within established time frames.
Additional Expected Responsibilities
  • Climb up and down ladders.
  • Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy.
  • Handle, scan, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, lifting up to 40 lb when required.
  • Work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays; arrive on time, take required meal and rest breaks.
  • Be able to work in and be exposed to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing duties such as Drive‑Up and carry‑out.
  • Remain mobile for the duration of a shift, which may vary in length.
