Job SummaryThe Overhead Distribution Lineman C works under the supervision of the Journeyman Lineman and Foreman while in training, learning the trade. The role involves constructing, maintaining, and inspecting poles, power lines, and auxiliary equipment for the transmission and distribution of electricity. The candidate supports and learns from the Lineman team and collaborates with other personnel within the department.
Responsibilities- Construct, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution electric or power lines.
- Provide technical skills needed for operation and maintenance of reliable electrical services, completing jobs with quality and timeliness.
- Connect/disconnect, install/remove, move, and transfer electric devices at customer facilities (e.g., transformers, regulator switches, capacitor banks).
- Route or reroute power lines over, under, or around existing lines and structures.
- Inspect and/or remove damaged power lines.
- Assist in carrying poles, digging holes, and other operations for setting or replacing poles.
- Perform line switching or sectionalizing as directed.
- Investigate consumer complaints and repair energized distribution lines as needed.
- Provide backup for Class B Apprentice Lineman and assist in completing duties.
- Submit all Apprentice Program required documentation in a timely manner.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems on customer equipment when necessary.
- Drive bucket truck to job sites and maintain truck stock.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of lineman experience.
- Valid Class A CDL.
- 2 or more years of lineman experience.
- OSHA 10 certification.
This job operates in a field environment, requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting—including awkward positions—standing, and twisting. Work occurs in inclement weather, such as extreme heat or cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and excellent vision and hand‑eye coordination to distinguish colors and judge distances.
