PurposeFrom basic remodels to large multi‑phase capital projects, the LAITS Technology Integration Team works closely with owners, project managers, and architectural designers to shepherd complex technology projects through consultation, design, purchasing, construction, installation, and commissioning. Our staff also partners with end users and faculty to develop custom control system programming, interfaces, training, and documentation for over six hundred presentation and collaboration systems across campus.
Our efforts ensure the successful use of technology to deliver over one hundred and fifty thousand hours of instruction each semester. The Senior Audio‑Visual Systems Installation Technician position is a critical part of the Technology Integration team and performs the hardware and physical layer installations that form the foundation of complex, high‑quality integrated systems.
- Assists in supervising the day‑to‑day performance of AV Systems Installation Technicians in all operational areas, including planning, effective preparation, logistics, and job site tasks.
- Coordinates communications between the Technology Integration Team and outside entities to ensure timely and effective installation practices. Examples include client facilities management personnel, help desk staff, and private sector operations.
- Identifies in‑room equipment placements, when necessary; facilitates efficient provision of services; oversees arrangements for site access, security, and safety.
- Performs audio‑engineering tasks such as highly‑skilled measurements of audio components, measuring acoustics of installation spaces, and verifying audio performance of project‑generated mock‑ups.
- Performs complex and environmentally challenging audio/visual installation work of the highest quality in newly constructed, renovated, and simple tech refresh spaces; tasks include pulling cable, terminating connectors, equipment rack wiring and setup, installing equipment mounts, and basic metal fabrication.
- Utilizes project management applications to perform and track task completion status, and upload field documentation and media.
- High School Degree or GED.
- Technical schooling in AV or IT specific field/s.
- Skills comparable to four years of experience in the skilled construction and maintenance of audio/visual equipment.
- Ability to use hand and power tools, soldering iron, crimpers, multimeters, signal generators, and testers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to troubleshoot and assist with the commissioning of AV systems of varying size and complexity.
- Skills comparable to one year of project management in a technical field.
- Demonstrated skilled use of various industry standard computer applications for project management.
- Ability to drive a university vehicle.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in construction or management field.
- More than 6 years of work experience in audio visual systems design and installation.
- More than 2 years in AV or IT project management at an enterprise level.
- Demonstrated experience with construction project management software such as Fieldwire, Procore, BIM
360. - OSHA 10+ hour course training.
- CTS, CTS‑I, CTS‑D certification.
- Crestron CTI certification.
- Biamp DSP training.
- Extron AV associate certification.
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant must provide a current three‑year driving record from the current state of residence.
