Senior Landscape Technician
Location:
Austin, TX
Weekly Scheduled
Hours:
40 per week
Work Shift:
Monday – Friday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm (hours may vary; overtime may be required)

Salary: $41,519 + depending on qualifications
Responsibilities- Provide quality customer service while performing general landscape grounds duties and maintaining university grounds and landscaped areas; plan and execute small‑scale landscaping operations.
- Safely operate all landscape equipment, machinery, and tools assigned or used by the department; perform minor repairs and routine preventive maintenance.
- Drive university‑owned light and/or medium‑duty trucks and trailers to transport crew members, equipment, tools, materials, and supplies to or from work sites.
- Assist the landscape supervisor in directing and checking the work of crew personnel, and in the safe use and proper care of equipment and tools; lead the crew in the supervisor’s absence.
- Follow established safety procedures and maintain shop areas, work sites, equipment, and tools in a safe and orderly fashion.
- Attend shop and departmental meetings, required safety training sessions or classes, and submit accurate daily labor and weekly time reports.
- Purchase supplies and materials in accordance with university procedures and policies.
- Perform other related functions, marginal or incidental, to support organizational goals and objectives.
- Perform additional duties assigned, including working with other departments within university operations and throughout the Texas System.
- High school graduation or GED.
- Three years of experience in landscape maintenance and repair or operation of commercial‑sized landscape equipment, including riding mowers.
- Good understanding of horticultural principles and practices, with experience installing plant materials.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Class "C" Operator’s Driver’s License.
- Provide a current three‑year driving record from the state of residence; obtain a Texas driver’s license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- More than a high school education or GED.
- More than three years of landscape installation and maintenance experience.
- Supervisory experience in landscape maintenance.
- Experience with landscape construction, including plant installation, hardscape, and irrigation.
- Completion of coursework, certifications, or training in equipment operation and maintenance.
- Technical training in landscaping or horticulture.
- Working knowledge of Texas native plant material, organic landscape practices, and hardscape materials.
- Class "C" driver’s license and up‑to‑date driving record requirements as in the qualified section.
