- Operating TIG, MIG, and Oxy‑Acetylene welding equipment and common shop tools such as grinders, sanders, and hydraulic straightening equipment.
- Training and mentoring Welder I.
- Reading and understanding engineering drawings.
- Using measuring equipment such as tape measure, framing square, straight edge, calipers, and laser level.
- Using shop measuring equipment and cutting equipment to cut stock (tubing, angle iron, channel iron, flat bar, etc.) for welded miscellaneous assemblies and frame assemblies.
- Fabricating simple miscellaneous welded assemblies and simple frame assemblies.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the work area and ensuring proper handling of tools, equipment, and stock to prevent loss.
- Conforming to departmental safety requirements.
This physically demanding position requires standing for extended periods, walking, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, distinguishing between colors, and working in a noisy environment. It also requires using hand and power tools.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, including welding helmets, hand shields, goggles, respirators, fire/flame resistant clothing and aprons, gloves, and additional PPE for clean‑room environments.
