Multi-Craft Refrigeration Technician Position Details

Responsibilities
  • Perform primary refrigeration repair and have advanced knowledge of kitchen equipment and HVAC systems.
  • Analyze computer‑generated work orders, prioritize work, use troubleshooting techniques to identify system malfunctions, coordinate repairs with other trades, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer‑service skills with supervisors, staff and residents.
  • Complete and submit paperwork accurately and timely; sign off work orders, document preventive maintenance, and manage inventory.
  • Carry a UT cell phone, respond to emergencies (24/7) and work weekends and overtime as needed.
  • Drive a UT vehicle to sites, transport equipment and supplies for routine and preventive maintenance.
  • Participate in safety activities, report unsafe acts, and promote lock‑out/tag‑out training.
  • Promote professional development for staff through ongoing training and monthly safety workshops.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • At least 5 years of experience in building construction, mechanical or utilities trade, with at least 3 journey‑level years.
  • Experience with tools and equipment common to the trades.
  • More than 5 years of journey‑level kitchen equipment cold‑side refrigeration experience (preferred).
  • Electrical experience installing conduit, wiring, controls and repairing multiple systems (preferred).
  • Licensed by the State of Texas as a master or journey‑level HVAC technician (preferred).
  • Commercial and residential renovation experience, including maintenance and repair of apartments or residence halls (preferred).
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to follow written and verbal instructions (preferred).
Driving Requirement

A valid Class "C" driver's license, valid three‑year driving record, and requirement to obtain a Texas license within 30 days of becoming resident if not already in Texas. Drug and alcohol testing may apply for CDL holders.

Work Shift

Monday‑Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM (hours may vary).

Work Conditions
  • Uniforms and/or personal protective equipment furnished.
  • All weather and extreme temperature conditions.
  • Exposure to chemical fumes, electrical and mechanical hazards.
  • Repetitive use of keyboard and manual dexterity required.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders; lifting up to 212 lbs.
  • Strength and agility testing required before employment.
