Master Mechanic

Williamson Creek Constructors JV is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic/Master Mechanic for a Heavy Civil, Underground Tunnel Construction Project in Austin, TX that is being built by Jay Dee Contractors, Inc., Obayashi, and HB Trenchless.

(5) - 10 Hour Shifts, with potential for additional overtime.

Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Master Mechanic is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, diagnostic, and repair tasks on tunnel boring and construction equipment. Working under the direction of the General Superintendent, this role supports project operations by ensuring all equipment is maintained in safe, efficient working condition.

Key responsibilities include diagnosing mechanical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy equipment at the project sites. This position may also be assigned additional duties as needed to support operational demands. Must be willing to work shifts, including nights, weekends, overtime, and emergency on-call as needed.

• Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic; prior underground construction experience preferred.
• Proven ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems on heavy equipment, including but not limited to loaders, excavators, dozers, generators, and air compressors.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work instructions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the team. Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills are essential.
• Ability to follow safety procedures, identify hazards, and proactively address issues.
• Capable of lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions, as well as in confined and underground spaces.
• Ability to climb stairs and access equipment within tunnel environments.
• Comfortable working in safety‑sensitive environments around heavy machinery and adapting to changing job site conditions.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to perform repetitive movements; work overhead; use hands to grasp; reach with arms; stand, walk, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, and twist; sit, climb, and balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or push, pull up to 50 pounds, work in above and underground environments, including confined spaces and all-weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to wear personal protective equipment as needed to perform job tasks, is regularly exposed to vibration, frequently exposed to moving machinery, mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and must be able to properly use, handle and dispose of hazardous materials per MSDS regulations and company procedures, and work in underground confined spaces.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high precarious places, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes very loud. The employee is expected to work in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work area.
