Welder II

Salary: $60,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Assist plant mechanics in installation and repair of power plant and chilling station equipment.
- Maintain shop areas, tools and equipment safely; identify, report and correct safety hazards.
- Perform confined space entries, elevated work and operate cranes, personnel lifts and forklifts.
- Comply with high standards of workmanship and safety; communicate effectively with team.
- Perform preventative and breakdown maintenance on welding shop equipment.
- Inspect, erect, use and dismantle scaffolding as required.
- Lay out, cut, fit and install various metal types; estimate material and labor; follow safety guidelines.
- Read and understand engineering/fabrication drawings, welding procedures and qualification records.
- Install and repair piping and equipment per ASME, AWS, and other codes.
- Perform accredited welding per ASME pressure containment codes.
- Attend safety meetings; train personnel; carry University cell phone during work and on-call hours.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduation or GED.
- Five years of journey-level welding experience or completion of formal certification program.
- Ability to produce sound welds by passing qualification tests under ASME pressure containment and AWS structural codes.
- Physical ability to lift up to 78 lbs, pull 125 lbs, lift 2–45 lbs up ladders, perform kneeling work in confined spaces.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an industrial or university physical plant environment.
- Experience with welding power piping and tubes in power boilers.
- Experience repairing rotating equipment.
- Experience operating cranes, forklifts and personnel lifts.
- Accuracy and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of occupational methods, tools and equipment.
