Substation Journeyman

A Substation Journeyman performs highly skilled, journeyman-level electrical work in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of high voltage electric substations and related electrical and mechanical equipment. This position works at various locations.

• Works safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following:
  • Concrete Foundations, ground grids, and steel erection
  • Buswork (High and Low Voltage)
  • Airbreak / Hookstick Switches
  • Control Cable
  • Terminations (High / Low Voltage)
  • Control Buildings
  • Conduit and duck banks
  • Capacitor bank installations 23kv-230 kv
  • Transformers, regulators and circuit breakers
  • Circuit Switchers, motor-operated and manual switches
• During installation and/or maintenance, troubleshoot and correct malfunctions of all substation equipment.
• Operate safe all company and related construction equipment used for substation, transmission, and distribution line construction.
• Follow company and industry safety protocols within the construction of substations.
• Perform any other tasks as directed.
• Maintain company vehicles, test equipment, and tools in good working conditions.
• Frequently work with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.

• 5 years of related experience and training.
• Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Work is performed outside and includes exposure to extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, and noise.
• Willing to work in various locations across the state or country and for extended periods, when required.
• Must be able to follow company safety rules and all other company policies.
• CDL is not required but a plus; a valid driver’s license is required.
• Willing to submit and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Ability to perform all assigned tasks in a safe and effective manner.
• Ability to understand and communicate information and work in a team environment.
• Able to stoop, kneel, crouch, dig, climb, and reach.
• Able to lift, carry, and place heavy objects.
• Must have an acceptable MVR.
