Position: GENERAL MAINTENANCE

JOB GOAL:

The General Maintenance Person is responsible for providing maintenance services as needed and/or assigned; assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials and vehicles are maintained in good working order and are available at job site when needed.

Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair (preferred)
  • Maintenance Service Certificate in one or more skill areas, including Electrician, HVAC/R Plumbing and Carpenter services (preferred)
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Understands and supports the mission, vision and values of Harmony Public Schools.
  • Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  • Assists skilled workers with repair and maintenance of district facilities
  • Performs maintenance service or repairs in one or more skill areas, including minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, machine servicing, electrical repairs or installations, or vehicle servicing.
  • Performs tasks such as but not limited to changing light bulbs, installing paper dispenser units, changing filters, changing locks on doors, minor decorative maintenance and other tasks not requiring a licensed skilled trades person or journeyman.
  • Assists skilled workers with facilities repair and maintenance, including repairing woodwork; replacing electrical switches, fixtures, and motors; painting, repairing, and replacing plumbing fixtures and drainage systems; and replacing broken glass.
  • Hangs pictures, mirrors, blackboards, bulletin boards, projection screens, towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and other items as required per ADA standards.
  • Performs outside custodial duties such as removal of leaves, dirt, clean up trash, recycling of broken branches of trees, removal of snow as needed.
  • Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Operates equipment and uses tools following established safety procedures
  • Corrects unsafe conditions in the area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately
  • Inspects building exterior, playground equipment, and grounds; performs maintenance and minor repairs
  • Detects and reports needed major repairs on building structures and their systems, including lockers, furniture, and equipment.
  • Performs repairs to floor coverings, ceramic tile and cove base.
  • Is knowledgeable to address leaks, clogs or other drainage problems
  • Assists with mowing and detailing of grounds.
  • Is able to use power washing equipment.
  • Uses materials, equipment and all hand tools required to complete assigned duties proficiently and safely.
  • Keeps daily records of materials used and fills out work orders assigned for the day; detects and reports repair and maintenance problems to supervisor.
  • Completes repairs as requested on work orders
  • Performs routine maintenance on building systems.
  • Repairs minor irrigation issues such as replacing broken sprinkler heads and pipelines.
  • Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Obtains estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed.
  • Moves, installs, assembles, and repairs all school furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities.
  • Installs ceiling and floor materials.
  • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Recycles unused or broken furniture, boxes and clean up dumpster area as needed.
  • Trims trees as needed.
  • Uses blower to clean in front of campuses as needed.
  • May be required to assist with special events.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
