Electrical Journeyman

Location:

Austin, TX

Position Overview

Plan, layout, install, and repair wiring, conduit, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform installations involving conduit, cable trays, and electrical systems. Work includes connecting power equipment, testing circuits, and maintaining electrical components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct work activities
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with OSHA and NFPA
    70E standards
  • Install conduit, cable trays, wiring, and electrical devices
  • Work from ladders and at heights
  • Install and connect motors, switch gear, transformers, and related equipment
  • Test circuits using VOM, Megger, Amp Meter, and similar tools
  • Repair and maintain electrical systems and equipment
  • Handle materials, tools, and equipment as needed
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine scope of work, including locations, quantities, and material requirements
  • Identify required tools for each task
  • Identify safety risks and implement appropriate precautions
  • Cut, bend, and run conduit per blueprints
  • Install, modify, and fabricate cable tray as required
  • Pull cable through specified pathways
  • Assemble and install electrical equipment
  • Terminate wires and cables to equipment including breakers, control panels, and distribution systems
  • Test components for continuity and proper voltage
  • Inspect equipment to ensure safe and proper operation
  • Set up and maintain temporary power systems
  • Install and maintain grounding systems
  • Hoist equipment and tools using rigging or cranes
Basic Qualifications
  • NCCER certification preferred
  • 4+ years of documented field experience
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and instructions
  • Capable of working independently
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, theory, and industry practices
  • Familiarity with LOTO procedures
  • Ability to distinguish colors and work with precision
  • Comfortable working at heights and performing varied tasks
