Position: Commissioning Specialist (Remote with 70% Travel)

Job Overview

This is a road‑based role responsible for the final testing and commissioning of complex audio‑visual systems during and after build. The role also provides technical and management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments, establishes goals and plans that meet project objectives, and works closely with the Project Manager to produce documented test results.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints.
  • Test point‑to‑point functionality of systems.
  • Review project Scope of Work to ensure quality and completeness of installation.
  • Test integrated systems and troubleshoot AMX/Crestron and DSP systems.
  • Field‑install control programs (AMX/Crestron) – upload and download capability.
  • Write code for DSP systems (Q‑SYS and Biamp).
  • Set up digital audio networks.
  • Make minor programming changes under direction of an engineer or programmer.
  • Fine‑tune audio‑video systems for optimal performance.
  • Configure IP addressable devices to enable network communication.
  • Perform client training and finalize job documentation as needed.
  • Act as a customer liaison in the absence of the Project Manager.
  • Create, track, and complete a project punch list.
  • Travel to various job sites across the country.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the team, ensuring flexibility with evolving priorities.
Qualifications – Must Haves
  • Professional communication with internal employees, clients, and colleagues.
  • Proven business writing skills.
  • Proficiency with test and calibration equipment.
  • Support user acceptance testing.
  • Live audio experience.
  • Video broadcast experience (Blackmagic Design, Vizrt Tricaster, Ross).
  • Minor programming capability (AMX/Crestron) – changes and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to diagnose complex system problems.
  • Knowledge of advanced signal flow for audio, video, and control.
  • Networking proficiency.
  • Advanced PC proficiency.
  • Excellent multitasking while adapting to changing priorities.
  • Independent work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Solid organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to regularly climb and work from ladders up to 35 feet and lift equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Valid driver’s license with proof of insurance for business use of company or personal vehicles.
  • Compliance with fleet vehicle guidelines if applicable.
Nice‑to‑Haves
  • Formal education in electronics or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of AV installation experience.
  • A four‑year degree or military experience may replace job experience.
  • Experience with enterprise VC solutions (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Bluejeans, Cisco Telepresence, etc.).
  • AVIXA General CTS (Certified Technical Specialist) certification.
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, and physical activity.
  • Regular bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Climbing, overhead work, and working at heights.
  • Use of tools and equipment as required.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds.
  • Heavier lifting may require assistance or mechanical support.
  • Warehouse, field, or construction environments.

Compensation

Hourly: $34.14/hr – $44.24/hr actual compensation within this range will depend on experience, skills, and location.
