Aircraft Mechanic I or II – Fleet Operations Division (2601755)

Position for Aircraft Mechanic I or II in the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Focus on rotary‑wing aircraft, especially AS350 or comparable platforms. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, installation, maintenance and repair of aircraft systems. • Travel with aircrew to perform aircraft maintenance‐related activities and/or repair and retrieve grounded aircraft.
• Assemble and install electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and structural components and accessories using hand tools and power tools.
• Conduct routine and non‑routine aircraft maintenance inspections as required by regulations.
• Diagnose, adjust, repair and/or overhaul aircraft components and systems including engines, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic systems.
• Disassemble engines and inspect parts such as turbine blades and cylinders for corrosion, wear, warping, cracks and leaks using precision measuring instruments and magnetic inspection equipment.
• Inspect airframes for wear or defects; check for corrosion, distortion, invisible cracks in the fuselage, wings, tail, or propellers using magnetic inspection equipment.
• Repair and replace pumps, engines, propellers, instruments, landing gear, airframe, control surfaces, and fuel systems.
• Move critical aircraft components using specialized equipment such as forklifts or overhead cranes.
• Report completed maintenance and repair work to the lead worker.
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
• Provide assistance to other mechanics in maintenance or repair procedures. (Aircraft Mechanic II requirement)

High School Graduate or Equivalent.

• Aircraft Mechanic I: 1 year fixed/rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair work.
• Aircraft Mechanic II: 3 years fixed/rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair work.

• Valid driver’s license.
• Airframe Mechanic certificate.
• Powerplant Mechanic certificate.

• FAA circulars, orders and regulations.
• Electrical/electronic troubleshooting and repair techniques.
• Repair and maintenance of hydraulic pumps.
• Preventive maintenance methods and procedures.
• Interpretation of schematic electrical wiring.
• Mechanical systems operation, maintenance and repair techniques.
