Responsible for performing specialized statewide installation, troubleshooting and repairs related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, Traffic Signal systems and illumination systems. Work involves providing assistance to districts with signal upgrades and coordination with ITD on enhancing signal connectivity. Assists with coordination of workforce for responses during emergency operations. Reports to the TRF Regional Crew Branch Manager. Work requires extensive contact and coordination with district and division.
Requires statewide travel and may require frequent working in heavy traffic. Employees at this level perform work.
Salary Grade B22 $ 57,614 - $93,138
Responsible for performing specialized statewide installation, troubleshooting and repairs related to Intelligent Transportation Systems, Traffic Signal systems and illumination systems. Work involves providing assistance to districts with signal upgrades and coordination with ITD on enhancing signal connectivity. Requires statewide travel and may require frequent work in heavy traffic. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
- Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, replaces and upgrades hardware and software related to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) including Dynamic Message Boards (DMS) and related appurtenances Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) infrastructure, Roadside Equipment (RSE) used in conjunction with Connected Vehicle (CV) technology, vehicle detection systems, cellular communication devices, fiber optic technology, electrical services and drilled shaft foundations
- Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, replaces and upgrades hardware and software related to traffic signals including signal inter-connectivity/networking, controller units, controller cabinets, advance and presence vehicle detection, electrical services, signal poles/mast arms, vehicle and pedestrian signal heads, pedestrian detection elements, Roadside Flashing Beacon Assemblies (RFBA), school zone signals and drilled shaft foundations.
- Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, replaces and upgrades hardware related to roadway illumination systems including roadway illumination poles, Light Emitting Diode (LED) fixtures, High Pressure Sodium (HPS) fixtures, electrical services and drilled shaft foundations.
- Operates and maintains equipment such as bucket trucks, drilling and pole setting rigs, trenching machines, skid steers, cable locating instruments, electronic test equipment and/or insulation resistance testers.
- Travels to or coordinates with district to coordinate workforce and provide Traffic Management system support during emergency operations.
- Coordinates with local TxDOT district offices for traffic control, supplies, and assistance, as well as serves as a liaison with city, county and other governmental and private entities concerning traffic issues and works to establish viable solutions.
- Ensures safe work environment in compliance with safety requirements and standards and strict adherence to the National Electrical Code( NEC) and local electrical ordinances.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

- Analyzes and interprets complex schematics and wiring diagrams. Assists in installation and splicing of fiber optic cable
Education:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
Experience:
Regional Traffic Management System Specialist I: 2 years of experience in construction, electrical construction installation, traffic management, transportation engineering, systems analysis, design, computer programming or related experience.
Regional Traffic Management System Specialist II: 4 years of experience in construction, electrical construction installation, traffic management, transportation engineering, systems analysis, design, computer programming or related experience.
(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related education and relevant experience may be substituted for each other on a year per basis.
