Job DescriptionKTBC Fox 7, a Fox‑owned and operated TV station in downtown Austin, TX, is seeking a full‑time customer service‑focused and team‑oriented Maintenance Engineer. The Maintenance Engineer will install, operate, and maintain video, audio, and other broadcast and non‑broadcast equipment, including data networks conforming to SMPTE ST 2110 standards, production control switchers, audio mixers, automation systems, routing switchers, server‑based record and play‑out systems, non‑linear editors, encoders, decoders, multiplexers, newsroom computer systems, media streaming systems, and RF transmission equipment.
Responsibilities- Provide paramount customer service and collaborate with other departments.
- Collaborate with the engineering team to design, install, test, and document new systems and equipment.
- Manage and maintain data networks while conforming to Information Security Team policies.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance to all systems supporting broadcast operations for live and production events.
- Accurately troubleshoot and repair technical faults quickly to minimize loss of service.
- Perform software and hardware updates, tests, and installations as required.
- Provide technical assistance and training to the technical operating staff on day‑to‑day operations and workflows.
- Practice, teach, and encourage best engineering standards and practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to solve complex problems and concentrate for long periods.
- Solid working knowledge of broadcast and network systems.
- Experience in RF and fiber‑optic workflows is desirable.
- Proactive, rather than reactive, work style.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Flexible with changes in workflows, a clear communicator, detail‑oriented, and highly organized.
- Prior experience in television, radio broadcast engineering, or similar technical disciplines preferred.
- Associate degree with an emphasis in engineering or IT, or at least four years of equivalent industry experience.
- Physical ability to climb ladders up to 20 feet, lift 40 pounds, and work in tight spaces.
- Flexible working hours and full onsite presence at the station’s studio or transmitter.
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to drive company vehicles.
- Background check clearance required.
Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location, is $30.00–34.09 per hour.
