About This Role Join a commercial construction crew in Austin, TX as a Laborer / Carpenter Helper. You'll work under the Superintendent and Foreman performing hands-on site prep, material handling, traffic control, and assisting skilled trades across commercial projects. This is physical, outdoor work - be ready to move materials, operate hoists, and support concrete and carpentry crews. We prioritize safety and on-the-job training.
You'll attend required safety meetings, follow site directions, and must obtain OSHA 10 within 90 days. This role is a good fit if you want steady field work, practical skills training, and a path to advance on site.
What You'll DoClean and prepare commercial job sites - remove trash, debris, and hazards; maintain tidy work areas
Handle, load/unload, and move materials (lumber, concrete, rebar) to work areas per instructions
Perform minor hand excavation, concrete placement, chipping, backfill, and site leveling
Operate material hoists/elevators; install and maintain barricades, ramps, and minor scaffolding
Control traffic in and around work zones and signal equipment operators for safe movement
Assist carpenters, concrete finishers, and other skilled trades; distribute tools and materials
What We're Looking For Previous construction or general labor experience preferred (helping trades, concrete, or site work)
Able to perform sustained physical work: lift up to 50 lbs, climb, bend, stand, and work on uneven surfaces
Basic familiarity with hand tools (hammers, saws, come-a-longs) and ability to follow verbal instructions
Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work early shifts and overtime when required
Willingness to attend safety training and obtain OSHA 10 within 90 days of hire
Qualifications OSHA 10 (must obtain within 90 days of employment)
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
Ability to pass criminal background check, drug screen, and pre-employment physical
Silica exam if applicable to assigned tasks
High school diploma or GED preferred
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
