Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University’s operations.

Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians. To this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university’s operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

Purpose

To perform journey level work in maintaining, repairing and installing plumbing systems that transport water, steam, natural and laboratory gasses, sewer, storm and drain water, chilled water, vacuum systems and related equipment and distribution systems.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, installs, and replaces building, laboratory, and other miscellaneous plumbing systems. Uses common piping materials such as copper, brass, black steel pipe, galvanized iron, cast iron, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, etc. (20%)
• Locates and repairs leaks in common and specialty piping systems conveying various fluids and gases, including but not limited to domestic water, reclaimed water, wastewater, steam, laboratory gases, natural gas, and refrigerants. Various pipe sizes to 10 inches in diameter and pressures ranging up to 150 pounds per square inch. (20%)
• Performs preventive maintenance on building, laboratory and specialty plumbing systems and system components including pumps and controls. Utilizes instruments such as ultrasonic, temperature sensing, pressure and flow gauges.
