Job Description

Position Summary

The LiDAR Field Technician I is responsible for supporting PLS field data acquisition as a working crew member under direct supervision, while completing initial qualification on PLS aircraft and sensor systems. This position works closely with the Field Operations Manager, the Lead LiDAR Technician, and designated Trainers to collect accurate LiDAR data safely, on schedule, and in accordance with PLS procedures.

Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:

Serve as Observer / Sensor Operator on field operations as designated by the Remote Pilot in Command, maintaining visual scan, sensor operation, and hazard call outs.

Complete initial qualification on assigned aircraft and sensors and maintain flight currency in accordance with the PLS Training SOP.

Prepare, stage, assemble, and tear down aircraft, LiDAR sensors, GNSS base stations, aerial targets, and field equipment for each deployment.

Execute pre-flight and post-flight checklists and manage LiPo battery charging, storage, inspection, and safe handling.

Retrieve field data, perform coverage and quality checks in Spatial Explorer, and upload datasets to LiDARMill under supervision.

Perform pre-trip inspections of company vehicles and report equipment damage, wear, or shortages to the Field Operations Manager.

Maintain accurate and timely records and documentation as required.

Follow all applicable Company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and regulatory requirements.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this position, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

High school diploma or GED.

Zero to two years of experience in field data collection, surveying, UAS operations, or a comparable technical field role.

FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.

Working knowledge of sUAS operation, basic airspace rules, and safe LiPo battery handling.

Proficiency with Windows-based software.

Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.

Valid Passport or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred but are not required:

Associate/Bachelor degree or technical coursework in geomatics, surveying, GIS, electronics, or a related discipline.

Hands-on experience with LiDAR, photogrammetry, or GNSS survey equipment.

FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate held at time of hire.

Experience working in aviation, surveying, construction, utility, or mining field environments.

Familiarity with point cloud or geospatial data software.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather, terrain, and temperature conditions.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb during equipment setup, operation, and teardown.

Must be able to lift and carry at least 55 pounds and load and unload equipment cases and vehicles.

Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate aircraft controls, sensors, computers, and hand tools.

Ability to sustain visual observation of an aircraft in flight and to read screens, charts, and printed documents accurately.

Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with employees, pilots, management, vendors, customers, and external partners via telephone, email, video conferencing, and other communication platforms.

Ability to operate company vehicles, travel as required, and work extended hours including early mornings, evenings, or weekends to support operational needs.
