Position: Intelligent Transportation Field Operations Superintendent (Signals)
Questions You Might Be Asking What will I lead?

You’ll command daily field operations for traffic signals, ITS, roadway lighting, pedestrian features, and all associated underground/overhead construction. From conduit and foundations to pole erection, cabling, cabinet installation, testing, and turn-on—you’re the on-site authority.

How will I make it happen?

Interpret plans, specifications, MUTCD/NEC standards, wiring diagrams, cabinet drawings, and traffic control plans into executable tasks.

Verify layouts for poles, foundations, conduits, pull boxes, cabinets, detection, and pedestrian equipment with Survey and Project Management.

Sequence utility locating, trenching/boring/drilling, conduit placement, foundation pours, pole setting, cabling, cabinet install, and activation.

Solve field issues involving utilities, access, phasing, constructability, and installation tolerances within delegated authority.

Drive QA/QC for foundations, conduit systems, wiring/grounding/terminations, cabinet placement, test readiness, punch-list closeout, and final acceptance.

Define means and methods for complex/high-risk work: crane and bucket operations, high-mast or large sign installs, deep excavations, night shifts, and live-traffic phasing.

Troubleshoot detection systems, MMUs/conflict monitors, controllers, communications, and field devices.

Who will I lead?

Foremen and multiple underground and/or overhead crews. You’ll set production targets, align manpower/equipment, and protect milestones.

What resources will I manage?

Fleet and specialty tools: bucket trucks, crane trucks, pressure diggers, trenchers, hydrovacs, HDD rigs, TMAs, PCMS, arrow boards, excavators, and more.

Materials and consignment inventory, including high-demand signal components—preventing shortages, downtime, damage, and waste.

How will I ensure safety and compliance?

Model and enforce OSHA, TxDOT, COSA, COA, and company safety policies.

Lead daily safety huddles and focused audits across traffic control, excavation/trenching, lifting, fall protection, electrical hazards, confined space, and equipment operation.

Confirm permits, inspections, utility clearances, traffic control plans, and safety documents are approved before work starts.

Partner with Safety on incident investigations, corrective actions, and targeted retraining.

How will I communicate?

Maintain daily logs, installed quantities, redlines, testing records, production reports, and HCSS entries.

Join weekly planning, L10s, look-ahead scheduling, and coordination meetings.

Report schedule and budget status, risks, and constraints to Project Management and the Area Superintendent.

Act as the primary field contact for inspectors, agencies, utilities, and clients; coordinate inspections, testing, energization, punch-list burn-down, and final acceptance.

Represent the company at preconstruction, progress, coordination, and final walkthrough meetings; uphold professionalism, housekeeping, traffic control, and public interface.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What background do I need?7–10+ years in traffic signal or related electrical/civil construction, including Superintendent or senior Foreman leadership.

Technical mastery in signal/ITS/illumination, underground conduit and foundations, and overhead signal installation.

Working knowledge of TxDOT, COSA, COA, NEC, MUTCD, project specs, and QA/QC for signal systems.

Strong ability to read/apply plans, wiring diagrams, cabinet drawings, traffic control plans, and construction schedules.

OSHA 30 preferred; excavation/trenching competent person and IMSA certifications preferred.

Proficiency with iPad-based field tools; HCSS for time, quantities, diaries, and documentation.

Leadership, communication, planning, and problem-solving strengths.
