Governors State University welcomes qualified candidates to submit an application of interest. The Coordinator, Student Disability Services, supports students with documented disabilities by coordinating reasonable accommodation(s) and promoting equal access to academic programs, services, and campus life. This position serves as a primary point of contact for students, faculty, and staff, ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and institutional policies.

The coordinator plays a key role in advancing inclusion, accessibility, and student success.

70% Student Support & Case Management

• Provide counseling, advisement, and referral services for students with disabilities and other special needs as appropriate to meet the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Evaluate and interpret student disability documentation to determine eligibility and appropriate accommodation(s) while managing the intake, documentation review, and interactive process for students requesting aid and services.
• Determine and coordinate reasonable academic accommodations in compliance with ADA and Section 504.
• Secure and provide reasonable student accommodations that includes but are not limited to securing note taking assistance, enlargement and alternative text format conversion, scheduling captioning and ASL services, assisting with testing accommodations, assistive technology and residential housing support.
• Maintain accurate, timely written and electronic documentation of services, program data, and disability records using Colleague, Starfish, and the Maxient intake/documentation system, ensuring confidentiality, compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Coordinate accommodation(s) with appropriate offices across campus and schedule services through external agencies.
• Provide ongoing case management, guidance, and referrals to campus and community resources.
• Supports and implements policies and strategic planning initiatives established by the Director of Student Disability Services.

25% Faculty and Staff Collaboration

• Communicate approved accommodations to faculty/administrators and support implementation.
• Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and administrators to resolve accommodation-related concerns.
• Consult with faculty and staff on accessibility, inclusive practices, and accommodation strategies.
• Promote ASSD services and awareness to engage and educate the GSU community.
• Participate in campus committees and activities to promote awareness of disability/accessibility issues.
• Assist with coordination of yearly commencement accommodations for graduates and their guests.

5% Training, Outreach, & Assignments

• Assist in delivering training and outreach programs related to disability awareness and accommodations.
• Participate in student orientation, activities, campus events, transition programs, etc. to promote disability services.
• Assist with ASSD graduate student training including ASSD support services and assistive technology.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Demonstrates knowledge and of a variety of disabilities and disability needs in the postsecondary setting.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and Americans with Disabilities Act and other state and federal regulations applicable to the postsecondary setting.
• Demonstrate ability to work with diverse and/or at-risk populations.
• Demonstrate ability to advise and counsel in the postsecondary academic setting.
• Demonstrate ability to be successful in collaborative problem solving.
• Demonstrate proficiency in crisis intervention, diplomacy, and ability to handle difficult and delicate situations tactfully.
• Ability to use data for informed decision-making regarding students' needs.
