Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Principal Engineer / Lead for a rapidly growing, technology company that provides streaming entertainment solutions designed to enhance customer experiences in commercial environments. This is a hybrid role based in Austin, TX.
POSITION OVERVIEWThis role is a hands‑on Principal Engineer / Lead position focused on owning critical systems, shaping technical direction, and delivering reliable, scalable solutions in a fast‑moving environment. The position blends deep individual contribution with technical leadership, working closely with executive partners to translate business goals into production‑ready systems. The ideal candidate enjoys navigating ambiguity, collaborating across teams, and taking ownership from concept through delivery.

- Write and maintain significant production code while architecting and delivering major backend, infrastructure, and data pipeline components.
- Own end‑to‑end technical outcomes across backend services, Dev Ops, testing, integrations, and supporting frontend systems as needed.
- Partner closely with CTO and CPO to shape technical strategy, priorities, and execution plans.
- Tackle complex and ambiguous technical challenges by understanding existing systems and defining what should be built.
- Assess existing systems, clarify evolving requirements, and design solutions for complex, ambiguous technical problems.
- Design and operate scalable, reliable systems using cloud‑native infrastructure and data pipeline.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with product, design, data, and business teams to align solutions with user and organizational needs.
- 6+ years of experience balancing significant hands‑on development with technical leadership, contributing high‑quality production code while coordinating effectively across teams.
- Demonstrated experience delivering customer‑facing software products with increasing technical ownership in complex, evolving environments.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and scale distributed systems while navigating ambiguity and changing requirements.
- Strong coding skills with the ability to quickly understand, improve, and extend existing codebases across backend and frontend systems.
- Deep understanding of full‑stack architectures, including how services, data pipelines, infrastructure, and integrations work together.
- Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, cloud‑native architectures, containerized applications, relational databases, and core infrastructure components including CDNs.
- Comfort making thoughtful tradeoffs around technical debt, delivery speed, and long‑term maintainability while owning outcomes end to end.
- Effective communicator and collaborator with experience mentoring engineers, influencing technical decisions, partnering with senior leadership, and leveraging AI‑assisted development tools to enhance productivity across workflows.
- Preferred experience with ECS, Lambda, IaC (Terraform) and backend development with Node.js, Python or PHP.
This position offers a competitive base of $190-215k/yr (DOE) plus equity participation, quarterly paid bonuses and comprehensive benefits package.
