Job Description & How to Apply Below

At InCommodities, we’re redefining how data and technology drive algorithmic energy trading.

As we continue our rapid expansion in North America, we’re building an independent US trading platform from the ground up – and this role is central to making that happen.

This is where you come in. You’ll design and build a production‑grade Python framework that integrates closely with our .NET trading services. That framework will form the backbone of our quantitative strategies, and you’ll use it hands‑on to develop trading algorithms together with quants and traders.

It’s a role for a software engineer who cares deeply about clean architecture, API design, and real‑time systems – and who’s curious about learning quantitative finance while building production infrastructure that directly impacts how we trade energy. You won’t just support trading – you’ll help shape how it’s done.

What you’ll do
  • You design and build a production‑grade Python framework that integrates with our .NET trading services via REST and gRPC APIs, supporting real‑time data, execution logic, and backtesting
  • You develop reusable libraries for pricing, risk calculations, backtesting, and execution strategies that scale across teams
  • You build and maintain trading algorithms using the framework you’ve created, working closely with quants and traders to turn ideas into production code
  • You ensure reliability through testing, monitoring, robust error handling, and failover mechanisms for continuous trading operations
  • You collaborate with platform engineers to define service contracts, data schemas, and integration patterns across Python and .NET
  • You build in monitoring and data quality checks to detect and resolve issues before they hit PnL
  • You document APIs, frameworks, and integration patterns so others can build fast and build right
  • You learn quantitative finance and gas trading concepts to understand the market context behind the code
Your Team

You’ll be part of a cross‑functional setup spanning trading, quantitative research, and platform engineering. It’s a flat, decentralized environment where trust and ownership matter. You’ll work closely with people who know their markets and their craft – and who expect the same from you. Decisions are made close to the action, and good ideas travel fast.

What you bring
  • You hold a BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a similar quantitative field
  • You bring 3+ years of experience building production systems in Python, with a strong grasp of software architecture and clean code
  • You have experience designing APIs, frameworks, or client libraries that other developers rely on
  • You’re comfortable working with REST and/or gRPC, including authentication, async patterns, retries, and error handling
  • You work with modern engineering practices like testing, code reviews, CI/CD, and version control
  • You’re confident working with SQL databases and care about data integrity and performance
  • You’ve used Python data and numerical libraries (pandas, numpy) and are comfortable with time‑series data
  • You’re curious about quantitative finance and trading, and motivated to learn pricing, risk, and market mechanics
  • You’re located in Stamford, CT, Austin, TX, or willing to relocate.

Bonus points if you’ve worked with algorithmic trading frameworks, real‑time or event‑driven systems, or have exposure to .NET‑based platforms or quantitative modeling.

How you work
  • You take ownership and move things forward with a strong bias toward action
  • You communicate complex technical topics clearly to both engineers and traders
  • You’re curious, eager to learn, and comfortable stepping into new domains
  • You thrive in a fast‑paced, performance‑driven environment with high autonomy
  • You collaborate openly and play for the team across disciplines
What you can expect from us:

You’ll join with a steep learning curve supported by a thorough onboarding program that sets you up for success from day one. From there, you’ll enjoy a high level of autonomy, working alongside exceptional colleagues who are bold, honest, ambitious, and among the smartest in their fields. Our culture is unique—we live our values of Honesty, Transparency, and…
