Sr. Backend Engineer; Hybrid, Austin

About the Role

We are building the next generation of our UI foundation for Crowd Strike's platform called Kestrel, which includes new UI and backend features to help customers ‘Stop the Breach’. The role focuses on innovating, building, and maintaining critical backend features in support of the Kestrel platform. Your work will enable a large number of UI engineers across dozens of feature teams to build the experience customers need to respond to adversaries efficiently.

• Design, develop, document, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large‑scale services.
• Take ownership and be accountable for deliverables.
• Triage system issues and debug by analyzing issue sources and impact on service operations.
• Mentor other web and backend engineers on feature service usage.
• Constantly re‑evaluate products to improve architecture, testing coverage, knowledge models, user experience, performance, observability, and stability.
• Partner with product teams to understand their needs, work with PMs to document requirements, and implement new features within our feature services.

• Degree in Computer Science (or commensurate experience in data structures/algorithms/distributed systems).
• Ability to scale backend systems – sharding, partitioning, scaling horizontally.
• Desire to ship code and enthusiasm for seeing production performance.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalability challenges.
• Team‑player skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Thorough understanding of engineering best practices, testing paradigms, peer code reviews, and resilient architecture.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, test‑driven, collaborative, iterative programming environment.
• Commitment to meeting deadlines and producing high‑quality, unit‑tested, code‑reviewed software for continuous integration.

• Existing exposure to Go, AWS, Kubernetes, Cassandra, Kafka, Open Search.
