The Office of the Attorney General is a dynamic organization with over 4,000 employees throughout the State of Texas. Our agency provides exemplary legal representation for every arm of the State, fights human trafficking, helps victims of crime, protects our constituents, and runs the most effective Child Support Enforcement program.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, enhance, and maintain backend services, APIs, and system interfaces supporting enterprise‑level applications.
- Develop high‑quality Java‑based components, leveraging secure coding practices, structured design patterns, and maintainable code principles.
- Build and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and data access layers that ensure reliable data integration and exchange.
- Participate in integration development efforts, including API design, data interchange, and orchestration using preferred platforms such as Talend Cloud and Mule Soft.
- Collaborate with product owners, architects, and cross‑functional teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including application defects, integration failures, and data inconsistencies.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, provide accurate estimations, contribute to sprint delivery, and support continuous improvement activities.
- Perform related work as assigned.
- Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Attend work regularly in compliance with agreed‑upon work schedule; telework schedules are permitted under the agency’s approved Telework Plan.
- Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
- Education:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. - Experience:
Three years of experience with programming concepts and programming languages, including Java; college credit hours may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis. - Experience with SQL and relational database development.
- Experience in backend development or interface/integration development.
- Knowledge of programming concepts and object‑oriented design principles.
- Knowledge or exposure to web or application development fundamentals.
- Skill in Java programming, SQL development, debugging, and integration workflows.
- Skill in learning new technologies and working in modern application environments.
- Skill in critical thinking, problem solving, and meeting deadlines in a fast‑paced team.
- Skill in effective communication and exercising sound judgment.
- Ability to demonstrate and act upon a passion for digital transformation and drive to make a difference as a public servant working high‑priority projects under the Applications Development Team.
- Ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
- Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional environment.
- Ability to work in person at an OAG work location, if needed.
- Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business‑related travel, if needed.
- Willingness to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.
- Physical ability to lift and relocate 10 lbs.
- Ability to travel up to 5% of the time.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. - Experience in the IT field, with agile methodologies, or working on IT projects.
- Experience designing or supporting REST APIs or microservices.
- Experience with Talend Cloud, Mule Soft, or other enterprise integration/middleware technologies.
