Senior Principal Software Engineer

Oracle's Cloud Infrastructure team is building new File Storage Services that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi‑tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best‑in‑class file storage capabilities in conjunction with other compute, storage, networking, database, and security offerings. We're looking for hands‑on engineers with a passion for solving difficult problems in distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services.

Joining Oracle will give you the opportunity to design and build innovative new systems from the ground up and operate services ineers at every level can have significant technical and business impact while delivering critical enterprise‑level features.

You will work as part of a highly collaborative team to build new features and tools for the File Storage Service while operating and expanding the current service offering. You should understand distributed systems, have a strong knowledge of software architecture, and value simplicity and scale. You will work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment and be excited to learn. Duties and tasks are varied and require independent judgment.

You will perform software development tasks associated with developing, debugging, and designing software applications.

• Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, and networks.
• Apply knowledge of software architecture to perform software development tasks such as developing, debugging, and designing software applications.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will define specifications for significant new projects and design and develop software according to those specifications.

• BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to the functional area.
• 6+ years’ experience developing commercial software in a distributed environment.
• Strong knowledge of Java, Go, Python, or C++.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals; strong understanding of databases, storage, and persistent technologies.
• Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and performance tuning skills.

Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 – $251,600 per year. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

  Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non‑overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment.
  
  Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
