Senior Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large‑scale services
• Take ownership and be accountable for deliverables
• Triage system issues and debug by analyzing the sources of issues and their impact on service operations
• Mentor other engineers on web and backend use of our feature services
• Constantly re‑evaluate our products to improve architecture, testing coverage, knowledge models, user experience, performance, observability and stability
• Partner with product teams in understanding their needs, work with PM to document new requirements and implement those features within our feature services

• Degree in Computer Science (or commensurate experience in data structures/algorithms/distributed systems)
• Ability to scale backend systems – sharding, partitioning, scaling horizontally are second nature
• Desire to ship code and love of seeing your bits run in production
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalability challenges
• Team‑player skills – collaborate as a team as much as possible
• Thorough understanding of engineering best practices from testing paradigms to effective peer code reviews and resilient architecture
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, test‑driven, collaborative and iterative programming environment
• Skills to meet commitments on time and produce high‑quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed, and checked in regularly for continuous integration
