The work of a Ramp Agent includes the following: loading and unloading cargo (mail, express, and company material) on and off aircraft; transporting cargo between terminals and aircraft; ramp transfers of cargo; receiving, delivering, and handling freight and company material; processing export documentation at designated docks; handling mail and baggage in the outbound baggage room; completing forms and messages required for operations at the designated locations.
Duties may also include transporting furnishings and supplies to and from aircraft, assisting in loading/unloading and racking drums, de-icing aircraft, cleaning windshields, pushout/two aircraft guidance, and related ground handling functions. May be assigned to monitor security, maintain area cleanliness, and report security concerns in accordance with site procedures.
- Perform duties in variable weather and environmental conditions (jet engine fumes, vehicle emissions, dust, jet engine noise).
- Load and unload aircraft cargo weighing up to 70 lbs; move and position loaded containers up to 3,200 lbs on rollers.
- Operate vehicles with gross weights from 3,000 to 80,000 lbs in congested areas and position vehicles to aircraft as required.
- Assist with aircraft push-out and provide guidance to drivers during push-back procedures as needed.
- Transport cargo to and from aircraft using appropriate vehicles and navigate congested areas.
- Read load sheets to determine cargo destinations.
- Perform de-icing, wing and fuselage cleaning, and related ground handling tasks at heights as needed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
- Ability to work rotating shifts including weekends, holidays, and variable days off.
- Ability to work in a high-noise environment.
- Pull, push, and lift bags up to 70 lbs onto or from a conveyor.
